Oltretomba #13

Oltretomba was a prominent Italian horror comic series published by Edizioni ErreGì during the late 1960s and early 1970s. This series emerged during a golden age of Italian 'fumetti neri,' a genre characterized by dark, transgressive themes and macabre storytelling that pushed the boundaries of post-war Italian censorship. Like its contemporaries, Oltretomba utilized a pocket-sized format designed for easy consumption at newsstands, catering to an audience fascinated by the intersection of gothic horror and erotic thriller tropes.

The visual identity of the series relied heavily on the stark contrast of black-and-white ink work, typical of the low-budget, high-output production standards of the era. These issues often featured anonymous or pseudonymous artists, as many creators at the time worked under house names to maintain high production schedules. Issue #13, following the series' established formula, provided readers with self-contained, often grisly tales that reflected the societal anxieties and fascination with the occult prevalent in Italy during that period.
