Oltretomba #22

Oltretomba was a long-running Italian horror comic series published by Edizioni ErreGì starting in the early 1970s. As part of the popular 'fumetti neri' genre, it leaned heavily into gothic atmosphere, macabre storytelling, and stylized eroticism, which were hallmarks of the medium during that period in Italy. These pocket-sized volumes were designed for quick consumption, often sold at newsstands to readers looking for dark, imaginative escapism.

The series relied on a rotating team of artists and writers to maintain a consistent output of lurid tales, often featuring supernatural entities, ghosts, and surreal threats. Issue number 22, like many others in the run, showcases the characteristic black-and-white illustrative style that defined the era's horror comics. It remains a notable example of the low-budget, high-concept publishing culture that flourished in Italy before shifting societal standards and distribution shifts impacted the market.
