Oltretomba #49

Oltretomba was a long-running Italian horror comic series published by Edizioni ErreGi throughout the 1970s. Issue number 49 was part of a prolific era for the series, which capitalized on the immense popularity of 'fumetti neri,' or dark comics, that permeated Italian pop culture at the time. These pocket-sized volumes were designed for quick consumption, typically sold at newsstands, and featured stories that blended supernatural themes with the provocative, gritty aesthetic common to the genre.

The series often leaned into the aesthetic sensibilities of creators like Renzo Barbieri and Giorgio Cavedon, who shaped the house style of ErreGi. These comics were intended to shock and entertain a wide audience of adult readers, featuring bold, high-contrast black-and-white illustrations and narratives that prioritized suspense and eroticized horror. While individual artists on specific issues are not always credited, the overall design language reflects the industrial, low-cost production methods that characterized the competitive Italian newsstand market of the late 20th century.
