Oltretomba Collezione #55

Oltretomba Collezione was a long-running Italian fumetti neri series published by Edizioni ErreGì starting in the early 1970s. This series, much like the contemporaneous Goldrake or Jacula, tapped into the popular appetite for gothic horror and erotica, blending supernatural themes with the stylized, gritty aesthetics that defined the era of adult Italian comics. Issue number 55 reflects the typical format of the series, featuring standalone or loosely connected stories designed for mass-market newsstand distribution.

The visual identity of Oltretomba was built on the work of various uncredited or pseudonymous artists who utilized high-contrast, black-and-white ink work to capture moody, suspenseful narratives. These comics were intended as affordable pulp entertainment, prioritizing evocative covers and macabre storytelling over formal acclaim. While they were initially dismissed by critics of the period, they have since been reevaluated by historians as significant artifacts of mid-century Italian pop culture and the specific editorial sensibilities of the small, prolific publishing houses operating in Milan during the 1970s.
