Where it came from
Oltretomba Collezione was a long-running Italian fumetti neri series published throughout the 1970s by Edizioni Grika. The series was part of a cultural wave of 'pocket-sized' horror comics that flourished in Italy during that decade, characterized by its provocative covers and dark, suspenseful narratives designed to appeal to adult readers seeking transgressive escapism.
The visual language of the series relied on the stark, gritty illustrative style common to the era's photo-comics and pulp horror hybrids. Issue #38 reflects the hallmark aesthetic of the collection, balancing traditional comic book sequential art with the sensationalist, often unsettling imagery that defined the publisher's output and solidified the series as a cult relic of Italian underground pop culture.
