Oltretomba Speciaal #158

Oltretomba Speciaal was part of a popular series of Italian horror comics published by Edizioni ErreGì during the 1970s. These 'fumetti neri' were produced in a small, pocket-sized format, reflecting the cultural appetite for sensationalist and macabre storytelling that flourished in Italy at the time. This specific series focused on supernatural terror, gothic atmospheres, and transgressive themes that pushed the boundaries of standard newsstand publications.

The art and editorial direction of the Oltretomba line were typically collaborative efforts involving various artists and writers who worked under tight production deadlines to feed a hungry market. The visual style prioritized high-contrast, moody illustrations to evoke dread and intrigue. While these comics were often dismissed by contemporary critics as disposable pulp entertainment, they have since gained recognition among archivists for their distinct mid-century graphic aesthetic and as important artifacts of the European independent horror comic scene.
