Where it came from
Secret Origins #2 was published by DC Comics in 1973 as part of a short-lived series designed to revisit the histories of iconic Golden Age characters. In the early 1970s, DC sought to capitalize on the nostalgia for their early catalog by reprinting classic stories and commissioning new framing sequences, providing a bridge between the company's foundational mythology and the sensibilities of a more modern audience.
This specific issue features the origin stories of the Golden Age Green Lantern and the Flash, Jay Garrick. The editorial direction, overseen during the tenure of writers and artists who revered the publisher's history, aimed to organize the continuity of the DC multiverse. The artwork reflects the transition from the distinct stylistic flair of the 1940s to the more polished, detail-oriented house style prevalent at DC during the bronze age of comics.
