Walter Lantz Woody Woodpecker #90

Walter Lantz Woody Woodpecker issue number 90 was published in the late 1950s as part of Dell Comics' long-running Four Color and subsequent solo title series. During this period, Dell held the exclusive license for Walter Lantz productions, transforming the chaotic energy of the animated shorts into a family-friendly comic book format. These comics were central to the mid-century American newsstand culture, providing accessible entertainment that capitalized on the widespread popularity of Woody Woodpecker’s theatrical appearances.

The interior art and scripts were produced by a rotating team of studio artists and writers managed under the oversight of Western Publishing. The design reflected the standardized 'Good Comics' house style of the era, which prioritized clear, bright layouts and simplified character models to appeal to younger readers. While these issues were widely distributed and consumed as disposable ephemera, they have since been re-evaluated by collectors for their historical representation of the transition from theatrical animation to the serialized comic book medium.
