Where it came from
Warlock and the Infinity Watch #42 was published in 1995 as part of the concluding arc of the series, which ran from 1992 to 1995. The title grew out of the fallout of The Infinity Gauntlet, focusing on the team assembled by Adam Warlock to protect the various Infinity Gems. This specific issue served as one of the final chapters of the series, reflecting the shift in Marvel Comics editorial direction during the mid-nineties as the initial cosmic saga began to wind down.
The issue was written by Dan Abnett with art provided by Mike Gustovich. The creative team focused on resolving lingering character arcs for the Watch members, such as Drax and Pip the Troll, following the team's dissolution. The visual style adhered to the standard aesthetic of Marvel's 1990s cosmic line, prioritizing high-action layouts and character-driven interactions that aimed to provide closure for readers invested in the complex continuity established by Jim Starlin.
