Where it came from
The Souichi Pop! figure is part of the Funko Pop! Animation line, drawing inspiration from the iconic horror manga series created by Junji Ito. Souichi Tsujii is one of Ito's most recognizable characters, known for his signature nails protruding from his mouth, his spiteful demeanor, and his penchant for practicing black magic. This figure was released to capture the eerie, surreal atmosphere of the Junji Ito Collection, bringing the author's distinctively grotesque aesthetic into the stylized, large-headed vinyl format that Funko is famous for.
The design of the figure emphasizes the character's unsettling appearance, specifically incorporating his trademark nails and gothic aesthetic to appeal to horror manga enthusiasts. Funko worked to translate Ito's intricate, high-contrast ink-drawing style into a three-dimensional mold. Upon its release, the figure was well-received by the horror community as a faithful representation of a cult classic character, serving as a gateway for fans of the source material to commemorate the dark, comedic dread inherent in Ito’s storytelling.
