Where it came from
Souichi Tsujii is a character created by the renowned horror manga artist Junji Ito. First appearing in the late 1980s, the character is a malicious, nail-chewing boy who practices black magic and often finds himself in dark, comedic situations. This Funko Pop! figure, number 912 in the Animation series, captures the character's signature look, complete with his iconic forehead-embedded iron nails and stoic expression, bringing the unsettling aesthetic of the Junji Ito Collection into the stylized medium of vinyl collectibles.
The figure was released as part of a wave dedicated to the Junji Ito Collection, an anime anthology that adapted several of Ito's most famous stories. Funko designers worked to translate the stark, ink-heavy detail of Ito’s original manga panels into a three-dimensional format that retained the character's eerie presence. Upon its debut, the figure was well-received by horror enthusiasts and fans of Japanese dark fantasy, who appreciated the crossover between high-detail manga artistry and the approachable, minimalist aesthetic associated with the Pop! brand.
