Where it came from
Keroppi, the spirited frog from Donut Pond, was introduced by Sanrio in 1988 as part of their character lineup. Created by illustrator Miyuki Okumura, the design focuses on minimalist, approachable aesthetics characteristic of the brand's mid-period strategy to appeal to both children and young adults through themes of friendship and optimism.
This Funko Pop! figure, released as number 2 in the Sanrio series, represents a broader expansion of the brand's licensing efforts into the collectible vinyl toy market. The figure translates Keroppi's signature large, wide-set eyes and simple geometry into the standard Pop! stylized silhouette, a design choice aimed at maintaining recognizability while fitting within Funko’s specific aesthetic constraints.
