Where it came from
Sheriff of Nottingham number 1441 was released as part of the Funko Pop! Disney line, specifically honoring the 1973 animated classic Robin Hood. This character design draws directly from the iconic villainous wolf, capturing his pompous and greedy demeanor through his signature attire, including his plumed hat and gold-trimmed tunic. Funko introduced this figure to satisfy collector interest in characters from the 'Disney Villains' and 'Robin Hood' sub-themes, which are frequently revisited by the company due to their enduring cultural nostalgia.
The design process for this Pop! focused on translating the distinct 1970s xerography animation style into the minimalist vinyl form characteristic of the brand. Designers emphasized his narrow snout, weary expression, and regal yet sinister posture to ensure the figure remained instantly recognizable to fans of the film. Upon its release, the figure was welcomed by animation enthusiasts as a necessary addition to the existing Robin Hood set, which previously lacked a dedicated Sheriff figure, thus helping to complete the primary cast of the animated feature.
