Where it came from
Released in 2017 as part of the LEGO Ninjago theme's 'Hands of Time' subtheme, the Samurai VXL set was designed to represent a high-tech armored vehicle piloted by Nya in her Samurai X persona. The vehicle design features a unique steering mechanism that allows the front wheels to tilt, simulating a specialized handling mode known as 'tilt mode,' which reflects the action-oriented nature of the Ninjago animated series during that period.
The set was developed during a transitionary phase for the Ninjago line, focusing on the conflict against the Time Twins, Krux and Acronix. It was well-regarded by collectors for its clever use of Technic elements to achieve the articulated chassis functionality, marking it as a standout build within the mid-range price point of the 2017 wave while successfully capturing the aesthetic of the Samurai X brand.
