Star Wars Magnet Set

The LEGO Star Wars Magnet Set 852844-1 was released in 2009 as part of a series of promotional and collectible magnet packs produced by the LEGO Group. These sets were designed to bridge the gap between traditional minifigure play and decorative display, allowing fans to utilize the classic LEGO aesthetic in a functional, household format. The set features three iconic minifigures from the Star Wars universe—Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, and a Rebel Pilot—mounted to permanent plastic backing plates that include internal magnets for attachment to metallic surfaces.

The design of these minifigures mirrors the standard releases found in contemporary Star Wars sets of the era, reflecting the brand’s commitment to consistency across its licensed themes. While initially well-received by collectors for providing easy access to core characters, these magnet sets became subjects of notable discussion within the community because the figures were glued to the magnetic base. This design choice prioritized the decorative utility of the magnets over the traditional modular nature of LEGO bricks, a decision that eventually shifted in later releases to accommodate collector demand for removable figures.
