Where it came from
Abiding Grace was released in 2021 as part of the Modern Horizons 2 set for the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. Designed specifically for the Modern format, the set was curated to introduce new cards directly into the ecosystem while featuring complex mechanics and thematic callbacks to decades of game history. This particular card functions as an enchantment that synergizes with low-cost creatures, reflecting the set's focus on enabling graveyard-recursion strategies.
The illustration for Abiding Grace was created by artist Igor Kieryluk, known for his distinctively ethereal and painterly approach to fantasy art. His depiction of the serene figure serves to embody the card's theme of spiritual restoration and endurance. Upon its release, the card was received as a versatile tool for white-based attrition decks, praised by players for its ability to provide consistent card advantage over the duration of a match.
