Ajani, Sleeper Agent // Ajani, Sleeper Agent

The Dominaria United Art Series cards were introduced as a special inclusion in collector boosters for the 2022 Magic: The Gathering set, Dominaria United. These cards serve as high-quality, frame-less reproductions of the expansion's primary set artwork, designed to highlight the illustrative contributions of the artists commissioned for the game. This specific card showcases the work of Magali Villeneuve, a renowned fantasy illustrator known for her emotive character portraits and detailed digital painting style.

The artwork features Ajani Goldmane, a central figure in the Magic: The Gathering multiverse, depicted here in a darker, corrupted state as a sleeper agent for the Phyrexians. Villeneuve’s illustration captures the tension and shift in Ajani’s iconic appearance, emphasizing his menacing posture and the physical transformation forced upon him by the antagonist faction. Upon its release, the piece was lauded by the community for its ability to convey profound psychological shift through the character's facial expression and physical corruption, solidifying it as a significant visual narrative beat within the Dominaria United storyline.
