Where it came from
Ajani Unyielding was released in 2017 as part of the Aether Revolt set for the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. This specific version, identified by collector number 127s, is a promotional variant featuring unique alternate art by artist Aleksi Briclot. The character Ajani Goldmane is a central figure in the game's lore, depicted here as a mentor and protector utilizing the white and green mana colors of the Naya shard.
The Aether Revolt set focused on the resistance against the Consulate on the plane of Kaladesh, an invention-themed world characterized by Art Deco aesthetics and steampunk influences. Briclot, a long-time contributor to the game, designed this piece to emphasize Ajani's stoic and powerful presence. The card was received positively by players and collectors, specifically praised for its clean composition and the way it captures the character's traditional ferocity tempered by his role as an advisor.
