Where it came from
Ajani Unyielding first appeared as a planeswalker card in the Aether Revolt set, representing the leonin hero's role in the fight against the plane-wide influence of Tezzeret. This specific printing was released as part of the Commander 2020 product line, which utilized a curated selection of reprints to support various multi-color commander decks. The card serves as a staple for green-white strategy decks, focusing on creature synergy and card advantage.
The artwork for this version retains the visual identity established by illustrator Kieran Yanner, who captured Ajani in his characteristic protective posture. Yanner’s design work for the character emphasizes his physical stature and tactical prowess, aiming to convey both his aggressive battlefield utility and his benevolent nature as a planeswalker who champions the weak. The card was well-received by players for its balance and thematic consistency within the broader Magic: The Gathering multiverse.
