Where it came from
Asinine Antics is a rare card released as part of the Wilds of Eldraine Promos set, identified by the collector number 42s. This specific iteration was distributed as a store championship promo in late 2023, reflecting the set’s overarching theme of fairy-tale whimsy and magical mishaps. The card features an alternate borderless treatment, a popular aesthetic choice in contemporary Magic: The Gathering design intended to showcase the illustrative work while appealing to collectors of premium variants.
The artwork for this piece was commissioned to capture the chaotic nature of the card's effect, which swaps the power and toughness of creatures. Illustrators tasked with the Wilds of Eldraine cycle were encouraged to lean into the whimsical, storybook-inspired aesthetic that defines the plane of Eldraine. Upon its release, the promo version was well-received by players and collectors alike, who valued the unique visual frame as a distinct enhancement over the standard set printing.
