Where it came from
The Assassin token was released as part of the 2024 Magic: The Gathering set Outlaws of Thunder Junction. Specifically produced for the Commander expansion decks, these tokens are utilized by various cards in the set that create creature tokens to represent assassins—mechanically distinct entities often associated with abilities like deathtouch or menace to simulate their lethality on the battlefield.
The design of the token follows the established aesthetic of the Thunder Junction plane, which blends traditional high-fantasy elements with a Western-inspired frontier theme. These tokens were illustrated to fit the visual narrative of outlaws and hired guns gathering in the Multiverse, ensuring that players have clear, thematic markers to track their board state during games of the Commander format.
