Where it came from
Assault Suit was first introduced in the Commander 2014 set as a unique artifact equipment designed to facilitate multiplayer chaos. It was crafted with a 'gifting' mechanic, allowing the controller to pass the equipment to an opponent on each of their turns. This design choice encourages proactive combat and temporary alliances, forcing the creature equipped with it to attack someone other than its owner, effectively turning a defensive piece into a tool for table-wide aggression.
The art for this specific printing in the Commander Masters set, numbered 369, maintains the thematic visual language established by Wizards of the Coast for high-impact artifacts. The illustration captures the imposing, mechanical nature of the suit, emphasizing its role as an external power source that dictates the terms of engagement. It has been well received by the Commander community for its ability to break stalemates and introduce a layer of political negotiation to the board state.
