Beast

The Beast token, identified as collector number 4 within the Duel Decks: Mind vs. Might set, was released by Wizards of the Coast in 2017. This specific token was designed to support the gameplay mechanics found in the preconstructed decks, which were themed around the contrasting strategies of blue-aligned spellcasting and red-green creature combat. Tokens of this era were standard inclusions meant to represent temporary permanents generated by various spells and abilities within the set.

The illustration for this iteration of the Beast token continues the stylistic evolution of Magic: The Gathering creature tokens. While token art is often outsourced or sourced from a library of commissioned works intended to maintain a cohesive visual identity across the game, this specific design leans into the brutish, primal aesthetic associated with red and green mana-aligned creatures. Upon its release, it was received as a functional necessity for players, valued primarily for its clear utility in tracking board states rather than as a standalone artistic centerpiece.
