Beast

The Beast token, numbered 13 in the Commander 2015 set, was released by Wizards of the Coast in November 2015 to accompany the preconstructed decks of that year. These tokens are functional accessories designed for use in Magic: The Gathering gameplay, specifically intended to represent the creatures generated by cards like Garruk Wildspeaker or various green spells that create 3/3 Beast tokens. The set itself marked a shift toward more complex, multi-colored strategies, and the inclusion of standardized tokens helped streamline the board state for players participating in the Commander format.

The artwork for this particular token follows the aesthetic direction established for the Commander 2015 release, emphasizing the visceral and rugged nature of the Beast creature type. Like many supplementary tokens produced during this era, the illustration was created to be distinct yet recognizable, focusing on high-fantasy creature design that aligns with the visual language of the game’s expansion sets. It remains a staple for collectors of the Commander series, serving as a functional piece of cardboard that reflects the evolving graphic design standards of the mid-2010s.
