Blue Elemental Blast

Blue Elemental Blast was originally printed in the Alpha and Beta sets of Magic: The Gathering in 1993, but the version from the 1994 Edgar set, often referred to as Summer Magic, occupies a unique place in history. Produced by Wizards of the Coast to rectify printing errors found in the earlier Revised Edition, most of this print run was intended to be destroyed. A small number of packs survived, making them some of the scarcest cards in the history of the game.

The artwork for Blue Elemental Blast was created by Christopher Rush, one of the game's most iconic early illustrators. His design uses a minimalist, bold aesthetic that typified early Magic cards, focusing on the elemental nature of the spell to visually communicate its purpose as a direct counter to red-aligned magic. Within the context of Summer Magic, the card is visually distinguished by minor color correction adjustments and a 1994 copyright date, features that collectors use to identify these rare specimens today.
