Lightning Bolt

Lightning Bolt was originally printed in the Alpha set of Magic: The Gathering in 1993, representing the quintessential red damage spell. The Summer Magic version, often referred to as the Edgar set, was a highly limited and unintended printing intended to replace stock destroyed by water damage at the distributor level. Because of a series of printing errors, this version is famously distinguished by the misprinting of the card's color and rules text, making it one of the rarest iterations in the game's history.

The art was provided by Christopher Rush, an iconic illustrator whose work defined the visual language of the game's early years. Rush utilized a dynamic, visceral aesthetic to capture the sheer power of the spell, opting for a direct and striking representation of magical energy.
