Provenance

Where it came from

The Boar token (collector number 12) was released in 2022 as part of the Magic: The Gathering set Battle for Baldur's Gate. This set was designed to integrate the flavor and mechanics of the Dungeons & Dragons universe into the card game, specifically focusing on the iconic city of Baldur's Gate. Tokens are ancillary components used to represent creatures created by the spells and abilities of other cards, and this specific token was created to support various mechanics within the Commander-focused expansion.

The art for this token was provided by illustrator Simon Dominic, who maintained the aesthetic consistency of the Dungeons & Dragons crossover. The illustration emphasizes the rugged, dangerous nature of the creature to match the high-fantasy setting of the Forgotten Realms. As a utility card used for gameplay bookkeeping, it was distributed widely within booster packs and preconstructed decks, becoming a functional staple for players utilizing spells that generate boar tokens.
