Provenance

Where it came from

The Boar token, numbered 15 in the Secrets of Strixhaven Commander set released in 2021, was designed to support the specific mechanical requirements of the Strixhaven: School of Mages expansion. In Magic: The Gathering, tokens are created by various spells and abilities to represent creatures on the battlefield. This particular Boar was created as a 2/2 green creature, serving as a manifestation of the wild, untamed nature themes associated with the set's green-aligned colleges and druidic spells.

The artwork for this token aligns with the academic yet fantastical aesthetic of Strixhaven University. The illustration reflects the visual language established for the plane of Arcavios, emphasizing the creature's feral and robust physical presence. Like many tokens issued in Commander decks, it was received primarily as a utility piece for players, providing a physical representation of game states while maintaining the cohesive artistic direction of the larger expansion.
