Cat

The Cat token, designated as collector number 20 in the Core Set 2021 release, was created by Wizards of the Coast for use within the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. These tokens serve as physical reminders for creatures summoned by various spells and abilities within the game, such as those generated by the card 'Kaheera, the Orphanguard.' The design was commissioned to visually represent a feline companion, maintaining the aesthetic standards of the 2021 core expansion to ensure visual consistency during competitive play.

The artwork for this token was produced during a period when the game's art direction favored a clean, high-fantasy illustration style intended to be easily identifiable across a table. As a utility item, it does not carry a specific designer signature, but rather reflects the collaborative efforts of the Wizards of the Coast art department, which oversees the visual identity of all token assets in the set. It was received by the player base as a functional component of the set's broader mechanical suite, serving a specific role in facilitating gameplay for players using white-aligned creature strategies.
