Where it came from
The Demon token, numbered 15 within the New Capenna Commander set, was released in April 2022 as part of the Streets of New Capenna expansion for Magic: The Gathering. These tokens were specifically produced to accompany the preconstructed Commander decks, serving as physical representations of creature effects generated by various cards within the set, such as Ob Nixilis, the Adversary.
The art style of the New Capenna set was heavily influenced by 1920s Art Deco and film noir aesthetics, reflecting the plane's flavor as a metropolis run by demon-led crime families. The token features a stylized, imposing figure consistent with the set's high-contrast, urban-fantasy visual language, designed to seamlessly integrate with the mechanics of the accompanying decks.
