Demon

The Demon token, numbered 9 in the Double Masters set released by Wizards of the Coast in 2020, was created to represent creatures summoned by various spells and abilities within the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. These tokens function as game pieces, providing players with a physical visual reference for creatures that do not have their own dedicated deck cards. The Double Masters set was designed as a premium, reprint-focused collection that celebrated the history of the game by featuring high-quality art and sought-after mechanics.

The illustration for this specific token was executed by Greg Staples, an artist widely recognized for his dark, atmospheric contributions to the game's aesthetic. Staples aimed to capture the malevolent, imposing essence typical of demonic entities in fantasy lore, utilizing a palette and texture that evokes dread and raw power. The token was well-received by the player base for its striking visual quality, which elevated the status of a utility piece into a collectible work of art that remains popular among those who play black-aligned decks.
