Where it came from
The Emeritus of Truce variant of Swords to Plowshares was released as part of the Strixhaven: School of Mages promotional suite in 2021. Designed to capture the academic aesthetic of the MTG multiverse's premier magical university, these cards feature the distinctive 'Mystical Archive' frame, which emphasizes classical parchment textures and intricate, gold-leaf-inspired border details.
The artwork for this specific iteration was provided by illustrator Magali Villeneuve. Her approach was to bridge the peaceful ethos of the spell with the scholarly atmosphere of Strixhaven, utilizing soft lighting and a contemplative composition to represent the transformation of conflict into cultivation. Upon release, the card was widely praised for its elegant visual integration of the game's core history with the set's unique collegiate theme.
