Eternal Witness

Eternal Witness was originally introduced in the 2004 set Fifth Dawn, quickly becoming a staple in the Magic: The Gathering ecosystem due to its efficient ability to recover any card from a player's graveyard. This specific version, appearing as card number 138 in the Midnight Hunt Commander set released in 2021, features updated artwork consistent with the set's gothic horror aesthetic. The card reflects the enduring utility of green-aligned mechanics, emphasizing themes of cycle, regrowth, and the connection between the living and the dead.

The art for this iteration was created by artist Livia Prima, who sought to capture the somber, mist-shrouded atmosphere of the Innistrad plane. By depicting the character as a stoic, ethereal figure amidst the autumnal gloom of the setting, the design leans into the thematic focus of the Midnight Hunt release. Upon its inclusion in these supplemental decks, the card was received positively by the community for maintaining its mechanical reliability while providing a visual experience that felt cohesive with the modern, high-fidelity art direction of current sets.
