Where it came from
Exotic Orchard was originally printed in the 1996 expansion set Mirage, designed to function as a mana-fixing land that rewards players for the color choices of their opponents. The version from Commander 2020, marked as collector number 273, was included as part of the Arcane Maelstrom preconstructed deck. This iteration utilizes the updated modern card frame and features artwork by Titus Lunter, who was commissioned to provide a lush, vibrant depiction of a grove containing flora from multiple magical planes, reinforcing the card's theme of adaptation and diversity.
The Commander 2020 set was released during a period when Wizards of the Coast was significantly expanding the support for the Commander format, which had become the most popular way to play Magic: The Gathering. As a staple utility land, Exotic Orchard is frequently reprinted in supplemental products to ensure accessibility for players building multi-colored decks. The card is widely regarded by the community as an essential budget-friendly inclusion for its ability to generate any color of mana found in an opponent's board state, making it a reliable, flexible choice for multiplayer environments.
