Where it came from
Exotic Orchard was originally printed in the 1979 expansion set Legends and has since become a staple of the Magic: The Gathering Commander format due to its utility in multi-color decks. Its inclusion in the Commander 2017 product suite—specifically within the 'Draconic Domination' tribal deck—served to provide players with a reliable source of mana fixing that scales in efficiency based on the color identities of their opponents.
The card’s design, featuring art by Cliff Childs for this specific printing, emphasizes the flexible nature of land cards that provide colored mana based on the board state. This iteration was well-received by the Commander community for its strategic value in political gameplay, where the ability to tap for any color present on the battlefield helps mitigate the variance inherent in multiplayer formats.
