Gleemax

Gleemax is a card from the 2004 Magic: The Gathering set Unhinged, which was the second 'silver-bordered' expansion released by Wizards of the Coast. These sets were designed to be humorous and self-referential, existing outside of the game's standard competitive tournament rules. The card depicts Gleemax, the malevolent, sentient supercomputer that serves as the satirical mascot for the company's internal research and development group, reflecting the lighthearted, meta-commentary nature of the entire set.

The card was illustrated by Ron Spencer, a prominent Magic: The Gathering artist known for his distinctively gritty and occasionally surreal style. In keeping with the absurdity of the Unhinged set, the design portrays the character as a vast, brain-like entity encompassing an entire planet. Upon its release, the card was received as a tongue-in-cheek nod to the inner workings of the game's creators, grounding its appeal in the established lore of the company’s own playful office culture.
