Glen Elendra

Glen Elendra was originally introduced to the Magic: The Gathering multiverse as a location in the 2008 Shadowmoor expansion, serving as a pivotal setting for the block's narrative. As a mystical, somewhat eerie sanctuary protected by the fae, it was designed to represent the intersection of high fantasy whimsy and the darker, more visceral folkloric roots that defined the Shadowmoor setting. When it was reprinted as a legendary land card in the 2016 Planechase Anthology, it was reframed as a planar card, allowing players to mechanically step into the location's specific atmospheric influence.

The art and mechanical design for the broader Planechase series, including the anthology entries, were crafted to evoke the feeling of wandering through diverse environments within the game's lore. The illustration for the Glen Elendra plane card maintains the ethereal, slightly unsettling aesthetic established by the original Shadowmoor creative team. By the time of the 2016 anthology, the card was received as a nostalgic callback for veteran players, providing a distinct mechanical experience that emphasizes the set's goal of bringing the chaotic, shifting nature of planeswalking to the tabletop.
