Where it came from
Guerrilla Tactics first appeared in the Mirage expansion in 1996, designed by Wizards of the Coast to introduce more reactive mechanics into Magic: The Gathering gameplay. The card was created to punish opponents for discarding the player's cards, serving as a tactical deterrent that rewarded players for holding onto specific resources rather than playing them immediately.
The art for the card was provided by Roger Raupp, who captured the chaotic, primitive aesthetic associated with the expansion's focus on magical warfare in a desert landscape. While the card has seen various reprints, its inclusion in The List—a curated collection of cards inserted into modern booster packs—serves as a nod to the game's long-standing history and the evolution of its damage-based spell design.
