Where it came from
Originally appearing in the Eldritch Moon set, Imprisoned in the Moon was reprinted as part of the Crimson Vow Commander collection in 2021. The card represents a pivotal moment in the Magic: The Gathering narrative where the Eldrazi titan Emrakul is sealed within the moon of Innistrad. This reprint maintains the mechanical utility of the original, serving as a powerful blue enchantment that removes a target permanent by turning it into a colorless land.
The artwork for this specific printing captures the eerie, cosmic horror aesthetic characteristic of the Innistrad plane. Illustrators for the set leaned into the theme of celestial containment, using cold, muted tones to emphasize the isolation and finality of the imprisonment. Upon its release in Commander, the card was widely received as a staple utility piece for blue-based control decks, valued for its versatility in neutralizing commanders or problematic threats without destroying them.
