Where it came from
Imprisoned in the Moon was originally released as a rare enchantment in the 2016 Magic: The Gathering set Eldritch Moon. Designed by Wizards of the Coast, the card reflects the set's gothic horror themes, specifically depicting the moment the Eldrazi titan Emrakul is sealed within the silver moon of the plane Innistrad. The artwork, provided by Christine Choi, captures the eerie, cosmic transformation of the moon's surface, grounding the fantastical narrative of the set in a somber and visually striking style.
This specific version of the card is part of The List, an evolving collection of reprints that appear in Set Boosters. By including iconic or mechanically significant cards from the game's long history in newer packs, the developers aim to provide players with access to older staples while celebrating the aesthetic evolution of the game's multiverse. The card remains a notable example of 'blue' color identity utility, praised for its ability to neutralize high-threat permanents in gameplay.
