Where it came from
Imprisoned in the Moon was released in 2016 as a promotional card for the Magic: The Gathering expansion Eldritch Moon. The card serves as a narrative anchor for the set's storyline, depicting the planeswalker Emrakul being sealed within the moon of the plane Innistrad. The design features art by Cliff Childs, who was tasked with conveying the surreal, cosmic horror aesthetic that defined the Eldritch Moon release.
Mechanically, the card is notable for its unique ability to transform a permanent into a land, effectively neutralizing powerful threats with a flavorful touch of isolation. Upon its release, the card received praise for its strong thematic connection to the set's central conflict and its utility in various Magic formats. It remains a sought-after piece for players who collect cards featuring the Eldritch Moon promo stamp, symbolizing the conclusion of the Shadows over Innistrad block.
