Where it came from
Imprisoned in the Moon was originally released in the 2016 set Eldritch Moon, but this specific version appeared as part of the 2023 March of the Machine Commander product line. The card depicts a key narrative moment from the plane of Innistrad, where the eldritch horror Emrakul is sealed within the moon. This iteration features a distinct art style tailored for the supplemental Commander set, maintaining the set's broader theme of multiversal conflict.
The card is designed as a blue enchantment that serves as a versatile piece of removal, transforming any permanent into a colorless land. Illustrators for the March of the Machine Commander series were tasked with evoking the high-stakes, epic atmosphere of the Phyrexian invasion, and the design remains a staple in the format due to its unique ability to neutralize powerful commanders or utility pieces without destroying them, leaving the target permanently incapacitated.
