Forest

The Forest card, collector number 401, was released in 2023 as part of The Lost Caverns of Ixalan expansion for Magic: The Gathering. As a basic land, it serves as a foundational element of the set's gameplay, designed to provide green mana while immersing players in the subterranean, dinosaur-filled world of Ixalan. The artwork depicts the lush, bioluminescent vegetation found within the hidden caverns beneath the planet's surface, aiming to convey a sense of ancient, untamed growth that distinguishes this setting from the more typical forest biomes found in the game.

The illustration was created by artist Colin Boyer, who utilized the set's aesthetic of deep, subterranean mystery to craft a landscape that feels both vibrant and oppressive. The design process focused on integrating the geological wonders of the caverns with the organic life cycles of the jungle, emphasizing the unique verticality and glowing flora central to the Ixalan narrative. Upon its release, the card was well-received by players for its atmospheric representation of the set's theme, effectively bridging the gap between traditional land art and the specific visual identity of the expansion.
