Provenance

Where it came from

The Island card from the Zendikar Rising Art Series, released in 2020, serves as a celebration of the visual identity established in the Zendikar setting. This series was designed to highlight the intricate world-building of Magic: The Gathering by featuring full-art illustrations without the standard gameplay card frames, allowing collectors to appreciate the environment design as standalone pieces of landscape art.

The illustration featured on this specific card continues the aesthetic legacy of the plane of Zendikar, known for its floating islands, gravity-defying geography, and vibrant, untamed wilderness. By prioritizing the artwork over game mechanics, these cards were intended for enthusiasts who value the stylistic evolution of fantasy cartography and digital landscape painting within the gaming medium.
