Jwar Isle Refuge

Jwar Isle Refuge was originally printed in the Zendikar expansion in 2009, designed as part of a cycle of common-rarity lands intended to support multicolored draft environments. The card features an enters-the-battlefield ability that grants the player one life, a functional design choice meant to offset the tempo loss caused by the land entering tapped. This specific printing comes from the Zendikar Rising Commander set, which repurposed the classic utility land to provide budget-friendly mana fixing for players building decks in the Commander format.

The artwork for Jwar Isle Refuge depicts the floating, ethereal topography of Zendikar's islands, emphasizing the high-fantasy aesthetic that defined the plane's visual identity. Illustrated by the artist Veronique Meignaud, the piece utilizes a vibrant color palette and dreamlike lighting to capture the adventurous, explorer-focused spirit of the setting. Upon its initial release and subsequent reprints, the card has been received as a reliable, if modest, staple for casual players seeking stable mana bases without the need for expensive rare lands.
