Jwar Isle Refuge

Jwar Isle Refuge was originally printed as part of the Zendikar expansion in 2009, designed as a cycle of lands that provided both mana and a small amount of life gain. The card was reprinted in the Commander 2013 product, a series of preconstructed decks released by Wizards of the Coast to support the increasingly popular Commander format. These decks were intended to provide players with ready-to-play options featuring legendary creatures and thematic utility cards, making them a cornerstone for newcomers and experienced players alike.

The artwork for this card was illustrated by Kieran Yanner, who captured the surreal, floating aesthetic of the Zendikar plane. The design focuses on the refuge as a sanctuary within a world defined by its volatile, shifting terrain. Upon its release and subsequent reprints, the card was received as a functional, if modest, inclusion for budget-conscious deck builders, valued for its ability to smooth out mana bases while offering a minor incidental benefit in multiplayer games.
