Where it came from
Kird Ape was originally released in the 1993 Arabian Nights expansion for Magic: The Gathering, designed by Richard Garfield to showcase the game's early color-pie flexibility. As one of the most iconic aggressive creatures in the game's history, the card defined the 'Zoo' archetype by rewarding players for including both Forest and Mountain cards in their deck, effectively making it a 2/3 creature for a single green mana.
The version from the Eternal Masters set, released in 2016, features artwork by Jesper Ejsing. This set was curated specifically to provide players with access to historically significant cards that had become difficult to acquire. Ejsing's depiction maintains the ferocious, primal aesthetic of the original iteration while updating the visual clarity to match the polished design standards of modern Magic releases.
