Kird Ape

Kird Ape was originally released in the 1993 Arabian Nights expansion, the first set of Magic: The Gathering to be released after the game's debut. Designed as an efficient aggressive creature, it quickly became a staple for green-red decks due to its ability to become a 2/3 for a single mana if the player controlled a Mountain. The card's design reflected early Magic's philosophy of rewarding multi-color synergies with powerful, cost-effective creatures that could pressure an opponent immediately.

This version of the card was reprinted in the 2009 From the Vault: Exiled set, a special compilation designed to highlight cards that had been banned or restricted throughout the game's history. Kird Ape was included as a nod to its past dominance in competitive play, particularly during the early DCI tournament era when it was restricted in Type 1.5 formats. The foil treatment and updated aesthetic maintained the classic look of Quinton Hoover's original illustration while providing a polished version for collectors seeking significant pieces of the game's evolution.
