Where it came from
Krosan Grip was originally introduced in the Time Spiral expansion in 2006, designed as a powerful answer to artifacts and enchantments that utilized the split second keyword to prevent opponents from responding. Its inclusion in the Commander 2021 set reflects its status as a staple utility card within the Magic: The Gathering ecosystem, favored for its ability to bypass counterspells and protective abilities that define the competitive landscape of the Commander format.
The illustration for the Commander 2021 printing maintains the visual identity of the original concept, focusing on the raw, primordial strength of the Krosan forest. The design goal for the card has always been to provide green decks with a definitive, unanswerable removal option, and it has been consistently received by players as a fundamental inclusion for any deck capable of producing green mana due to its reliability and strategic utility.
