Where it came from
Krosan Grip was originally released in the 2006 set Time Spiral, designed as a powerful green instant with the split second mechanic, which prevents players from responding to the spell. The card reflects the lore of the Krosa forest on the plane of Dominaria, known for its rapid, uncontrollable growth and protective nature. It quickly became a staple in Commander and other eternal formats for its ability to remove artifacts or enchantments without fear of counterspells.
The Strixhaven Mystical Archive version, released in 2021, features the card with the 'Japanese Alt-Art' aesthetic common to the set's bonus sheet. This edition was illustrated by artist Hitoshi Tsuchiya, who utilized a distinct, flowing style that contrasts with the original industrial-looking design. This specific version was created to celebrate the history of instant and sorcery spells across Magic: The Gathering’s history, and it was widely praised by players for bringing a fresh, aesthetic-focused look to a utility card.
